DLE 2009 Pittsburgh Archives

HP, Intel, and their partners  joined forces with Tech & Learning to bring you the new 2009 Digital Learning Environment event in Pittsburgh. This unique interactive forum was a one-day event held throughout the United States.

This Digital Learning Environment event was an immersion experience that provided K-12 decision-makers with state-of-the-art technology solutions delivered in hands-on lab environments. Divided by curriculum area, the lab environments were part of this unique forum where attendees were invited to be students for the day and experience authentic and compelling standards-based learning moments. They learned how technology-rich learning environments enrich students’ learning experiences and help them achieve.

Presentation Title: 21st Century Learning in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania’s Classrooms for the Future, the country’s largest classroom laptop program, has brought success to 543 high schools through the installation of over 143,000 computers over three years and a focused professional development program that includes face to face instruction, on-line learning and instructional coaches.  As a result, students are engaged in more rigorous, student centered and authentic lessons.  This session will highlight some of the Classroom for the Future successes, discuss conditions that foster those success and the potential impact of federal stimulus monies will have on sustaining and expanding 21st century learning to more classrooms and schools.

About Holly Jobe:

Holly Jobe has been involved in all levels of education from elementary, middle school, high school, central office and higher education.  Her interests are in how educational technology can reform education and fully engage students in taking responsibility for learning; and educational leadership.  Since 2006, she has served as the project manager for Governor Rendell’s Classrooms for the Future high school reform program at the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  Prior to being at the PDE, she was at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, where she served as a Technology Specialist and Supervisor before becoming the Director of the technology program in 1995. In that capacity, she supervised delivery of instructional materials, technical repair, internet services and technology staff development for the districts of Montgomery County.  She was the project lead for several state-wide professional development and leadership initiatives: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation State Challenge for administrator technology professional development, Pennsylvania’s Superintendent Technology Leadership Academy from 2000-2004, and Getting to One, leadership development for Curriculum and Technology Leaders in 2005.

Ms Jobe currently serves as a Member at Large on the International Society for Technology in Education board and recently participated in a People-to-People Citizen’s Ambassador delegation for Educational Technology in the People’s Republic of China December 2008.
