Input Wanted re: “Redefining Teacher Education for Digital Age Learners”
by Jim Vanides
I’m heading to Austin next week for a summit on "Redefining Teacher Education for Digital Age Learners". If you’re an experienced teacher or currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program, your feedback is urgently needed. Now's your chance...
This invitational summit is scheduled for Dec 6-8, 2009, where education leaders from across the US will be gathering to discuss the future of teacher preparation programs (http://www.redefineteachered.org/). While the invited attendees are an impressive and experienced group, I know there are many important perspectives from practicing (or retired or pre-service) teachers that need a voice, too. Here’s how you can help.
Experienced teachers and pre-service teachers enrolled in certification programs are welcome to contribute to the dialog by filling a very short survey I created. Inputs that are submitted by Sunday, Dec 6, will be incorporated into the summit workshops.
Through a series of working sessions over two days, participants will work collaboratively to develop a shared vision describing:
- Key characteristics of effective teachers for digital age learners
- Critical elements of teacher education programs that will produce teachers with those characteristics
- Barriers that prevent such programs from being implemented
- Policy and action recommendations that will eliminate the barriers and enable the realization of a new model for teacher education
So please take 2 minutes to fill out my survey. It’s anonymous and it’s important. Thank you in advance for your constructive and honest feedback!
