Ryan is a Policy Advisor in the Office of Lt. Governor Pat Quinn. In this capacity, he provides research and guidance to the Lt. Governor on telecommunications and technology issues, organizes meetings of the Governor's Broadband Deployment Council with the state Director of Rural Affairs, and maintains a sprawling website with a wide range of broadband resources. The site — www.illinoisbroadbanddeployment.pbwiki.com — includes updates on state projects, funding and legislation. He earned BA and MA degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
"A Vision of Illinois as America's Leading Tech State"
Illinois can be an example to the rest of the country and the world when it comes to digital opportunities. Lt. Governor Pat Quinn has long promoted technology access as a key to progress in every part of the state. In this talk, hear about the Children's Low-Cost Laptop Act as one example of how work in Springfield can move our students, teachers and even the business community forward. Time will be reserved for discussion about this bill and related challenges, like high speed Internet options in rural areas. We'll share ideas about how best to bring world-class, affordable broadband technologies into more schools, homes, hospitals, and organizations all across Illinois.

Part 2: Ryan Croke's Keynote, "A Vision of Illinois as America's Leading Tech State"
Welcome from HP and Intel
There is a great deal of discussion between business leaders, policy makers, and school leadership about defining the skills needed for the 21st century. How do those skills differ from previous generations? How does curriculum and teaching techniques need to change? What role will and should technology play in that process?
HP and Intel are working with education leaders to find answers to these questions and help improve education in the 21st century.
