What’s on the EdTech Horizon? The Horizon Report is Coming…!
by Jim Vanides
If you’re reading this blog, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re one of the many educators involved in technology strategy, planning, and/or training who are constantly confronted with important questions like, “How do we keep pace with the changing technologies? What’s coming down the road that we need to be prepared for?” Thankfully, we have friends at the New Media Consortium who are preparing the second edition of the K12 Horizon Report...
The Horizon Report has been published for many years with a focus on higher education. Last year, the first K12 Edition was published and is freely available for downloading. Both the hied and K12 reports engage education experts and thought-leaders to provide insights on what technologies have the potential to impact teaching and learning in the near-term (0-1 year adoption horizon), mid-term (2-3 year adoption horizon), and long-term (4-5 year adoption horizon).
The New Media Consortium (NMC) and CoSN will be publishing the 2010 K12 Horizon Report in mid-April (made possible by support from HP). But you don’t need to wait to take advantage of some of the great insights that were collected by the 2010 research team. If you are a thought-leader for your district, responsible for edtech strategy, or if you are an innovative educator always looking for new ways to enhance the learning of your students, you will want to download the following:
- The 2010 “short list” of technologies, in three horizons
- The entire list of technology topics that were discussed by the research team, each of which has a link to a synopsis description, and the comments from the research board as posted in their wiki workspace
The NMC also invites educators around the world to submit examples of the innovative use of technology for teaching and learning. Does your school system have an edtech project worthy to be featured in a future Horizon Report? If so, use this link to nominate it!
Bravo to the NMC for not only providing a top notch report, but for showing us a great example of a collaborative project that engages experts from around the world...
