Non-Fiction Book Review: "Tablet PCs in K12 Education"
by Jim Vanides
I know the summer is past the half way point for most Northern Hemisphere teachers, but if you’re still looking for a great non-fiction read, you might want to check out “Tablet PCs in K12 Education” by Mike Van Mantgem…
There’s still way too much mystery about Tablet PCs. With a mobile computer so friendly and helpful, I continue to be surprised at how many people still don’t know what it is. Perhaps it needs a new name, like “Laptop-with-Screen-You-Can-Write-On”. Or perhaps there should be a back-to-school ad campaign warning parents, “Do not send your students to math class with just a keyboard”.
In the meantime, you can bypass the mystery and see what all the excitement is by reading Mike’s book, “Tablet PC’s in K12 Education” recently published by ISTE. It’s practical, it’s based on the real experiences of practicing teachers… and the usefulness of digital ink will become very obvious. Then you will understand why I hear educators frequently tell me, “After using a Tablet PC, I will NEVER go back to using my old laptop…”

Thank your for your post. Perhaps it's really useful for modern teachers. Just would like to learn more about how to apply the device usage teaching different subjects, especially English or geography. Feel free to contact me with your ideas or discuss certain things.
